the return of the bicycle (messager)

maybe it's not a full return because they (bikes) never really left but it seems more cities are designing/implementing bike features into road-ways. i think riding a bike lets one absorb the surroundings versus an inclosed vehicle that creates a false sense of knowing.  it's like when you drive past an area multiple times and then, for some reason, bike and/or walk that same area produces a different perspective. now, GO RIDE A BIKE!!

coffee ice cubes

i've had this idea of coffee ice cubes although now i'm thinking espresso ice cubes might be slightly better of an idea :)  perhaps then, one may use an esp. ice cube in their water to add some flavor. one shot per cube?
i would suggest not pouring hot coffee right into the plastic tray, but cool it first.  that's just coming from a guy that's not a big fan of plastics and food.  my grandparents had metal ice cube trays, and 70 years later the grandkids now have them. not everyone participates in the "reduce and reuse" part of the cycle.
"It's long been known that infinitesimal bits of plastic get into our food from containers. The process is called "leaching" or "migration." The chemical industry acknowledges that you can't avoid this transfer, noting on its web site that "[v]irtually all food packaging materials contain substances that can migrate into the food they contact."
The amounts are small, says Laura Vandenberg, PhD, postdoctoral fellow in biology at Tufts University in Boston. "But almost any plastic container can be expected to leach trace amounts of plastics into food," she says.  http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/features/cookware-plastics-shoppers-guide-to-food-safety

it's all about LIGHTING

lighting techniques are taught in film/tv classes but i think lighting should be taught in elementary school.  it's more than just knowledge for someone shooting a scene w/ a camera. light plays an important role in everyone's life. first of all, with no light we would all be "blind".  simple to think about but easy to take for granted we can see, and we can see only because there are waves bringing our eyes information.  sure we learn about some technical stuff about waves and light in high school, but those are trees and i'm talking about the forest of light.  every time someone says, "oh, i didn't notice that", 99% of the time missing something is because of the lighting, the other times it's a trick someone played on him/her.  there are lots of objects out there that we humans think are working or not working just by looking at a light.

google calendar (to remind or not to remind)

i love google and the products it offers.  i just wish more things were set to manual than full-blown auto; eg. google calendar.  every time i create an event it automatically sets TWO reminders (one email and the other a pop-up) for 10 minutes before the event starts.  THEREFORE... every time i create an event i spend a couple of seconds deleting shit i don't need off of the event.  reminders are worthless, most likely because whatever the event is that i'm attending is going to be farther away than 10 minutes.

ONCE in a great while i do need to use the reminder for an event and then you come to realize that reminders don't work past 4 weeks... OK, i have a reception in July, the RSVP is 2 months before that and it's now only march?!?!?!?!?!?!  i can't set a reminder because i can only go back from july to june so i have to then create a NEW EVENT just to remind myself... and of course i need to delete both auto-reminders again for that too.
